The most common construction terms used in the industry can get you confused some times, as to what’s what and how one term is different than other. Wood flooring manufacturers in NJ and NY are really the busiest people, as they always have jobs on their mind and they refrain from giving out in depth detailed explanation. In order to make it easier for our customers, we would like to clear the terms out for a better understanding of the product you might need for your New Jersey or a New York Home. The Wood Flooring terms are generally the same throughout the word. The most common and the main terms you would hear is:
Hardwood
Softwood and
Engineered Woods.
A common misconception usually people have about Hardwood and Softwoods. As the name indicates, hardwood doesn’t necessarily have to be a hard wood and similarly for the softwood, it is not necessarily a soft one. The difference between the hardwood and the softwood can be determined via the trees, the wood come from. To make the difference easy, it can be said that the hardwood floors are those which come off the trees bearing leaves. Some very common hardwood examples are walnut, oak, ash, cherry, maple, poplar. Manufacturers and Home owners first choice is always hardwood because of the durability, strength and the stability.
Softwood comes of the trees bearing cones, generally from pines, Larch, Fir, Cedar. Grown usually in the colder regions. Softwood growth rate is way more higher than the hardwoods. Because of its softness, the wood is easy to operate, as in the case of hardwood.
engineered Wood can be said to be an extension of hard wood. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that engineered woods are derived from layers of hardwood. Engineered wood is a much better solution towards wood flooring because of the fact its composed of different hardwood layers, which prevents the wood from the humid weather and doesn’t affect the wood. This type of wood is also very easy to use in any part o home, which makes it the best choice for manufacturers and home owners!
